Our Mission
Cricket is one of the world's most complex team sports. A single match spans 40-100 overs, involves dozens of player decisions per over, and generates thousands of data points. Yet for decades, fans and analysts have been limited to the same basic statistics — batting average, bowling economy, and run rate.
CricRover was founded on a simple belief: cricket deserves better analytics, and those analytics should be free. We built this platform because we were frustrated watching matches where commentators talked about "momentum shifts" and "pressure building" without any visual or numerical way to verify those observations. We wanted to see the game the way professional analysts see it — but without paying for expensive subscription services.
Every metric on CricRover is designed to answer a specific question that traditional statistics leave unanswered. The Momentum Map answers "how did the match flow over-by-over?" The Bowling Pressure Index (BPI) answers "how much real pressure did this bowler create, beyond just wickets and runs?" The Contextual Batting Index (CBI) answers "was this innings as good as the raw score suggests, given the match situation?"

Momentum Map
A per-over bar chart where bar height represents runs scored, and colour tells you who controlled that over. Green (8+ runs) means the batting team dominated. Red means a wicket fell. Yellow (5–8) indicates a contested over. Dark grey (under 5) shows bowling control.
The Momentum Map makes invisible match patterns immediately visible. You can see at a glance exactly where a chase fell apart, which overs a spinner dominated, and whether a team's batting total came from consistent scoring or from a single explosive phase. Unlike traditional scorecards, the Momentum Map tells the tactical story of the match — not just the final result.
BPI · Bowling Pressure Index
A composite score measuring a bowler's true pressure on the batting side. Scored on a 0–100 scale, BPI rewards dot balls, boundary suppression, and wicket-taking — weighted by the specific game situation. A dot ball in the last over of a tight T20 is worth far more than a dot ball in the 7th over of a comfortable chase, and BPI reflects this reality.
BPI was designed to solve a fundamental problem with bowling statistics: wickets are lucky, and economy rates don't tell you how much pressure was actually built. A bowler who posts a BPI of 78 may not have taken any wickets, but they bowled a spell so tight that the batting team's run rate collapsed and their partners took wickets at the other end. BPI makes these "silent match-winners" visible for the first time.
CBI · Contextual Batting Index
Rates a batter's performance against phase-specific expectations. Powerplay, middle overs, and death overs each have different benchmarks for what constitutes a "good" innings. A CBI above 100 means the batsman outperformed what the situation demanded; below 100 means they underperformed relative to expectations.
CBI was built because traditional batting averages treat all runs equally — but not all runs are equal. A 40-ball 50 in a low-pressure middle-over scenario might actually be a below-par contribution if the Required Run Rate demanded faster scoring. CBI eliminates this ambiguity by measuring performance against the specific demands of the match state at the moment of batting.
How CricRover Works
CricRover ingests ball-by-ball and over-by-over data from live cricket matches via real-time data feeds. This raw data is then processed through our proprietary algorithms to compute Momentum Maps, BPI scores, and CBI ratings in near real-time as the match progresses.
Our platform is built on modern web technologies with a focus on performance and accessibility. Match data updates every 30 seconds during live games, and our caching architecture ensures that analytics remain available even during high-traffic periods around major international matches.
All analytics are computed server-side and presented through clean, intuitive visualisations designed for cricket fans — not data scientists. You don't need to understand the mathematics behind BPI to benefit from it; you just need to know that a score of 75+ means an elite bowling spell and act on that insight accordingly.
